Julie B Booth: 60th Anniversary Project

 I'm just back from Savannah having celebrated my parents' 60th Anniversary. To commemorate this auspicious event, I organized an art project. The results will be turned into a wall hanging,

I really enjoy doing fiber art projects with my 11-year-old niece, Ivy and 6-year-old niece and nephew, Poppy and Kai. We usually get together in August but this summer they are moving to a new home. The anniversary get-together seemed like a great time to get in a bit of art.

We spent one day making blocks from adhesive craft foam as well as moldable foam blocks which you heat to emboss textures.

It was great fun. Even Poppy's feet got printed!

Off to Savannah tomorrow. Hoping to visit the SCAD Museum of the Jepson..both of these art museums usually have fascinating shows.

Working with Weeds--Julie B Booth

This summer I spent a lot of time working with weeds.

I used the weeds I found in my garden to create a series of hand painted and printed fabrics.

My plan is to design a series of pieces called Weed Maps for F.I.N.E.'s upcoming show All Over the Map. In these pieces, I will collage the weed fabrics with a series of fabrics using different grids. The grids will represent a sense of order in contrast to the wild disorder of the weeds.

Once I have all the fabrics printed, I plan to sit with them and let them speak to me to see what my next move will be.
